So, short answer on environmentalism: It is incontrovertible fact that we are in the midst of a massive extinction event, rivaling if not equaling the extinction of the dinosaurs. It is highly likely that no species is guaranteed safe from extinction, including every member of my list of things with minds. Even if humanity survives, our current path will eventually lead to, at best, economic collapse; at worst, famine, disease, war, and extinction. Millions or billions of thinking minds will be destroyed, and that's not even including the OTHER species we're killing (note that many of the suspected minds are high on the endangered species list).
All of these minds depend on the ecosystem to keep their bodies alive, and I do not believe that mind can exist without the body that sustains it. And we have NO IDEA how much damage the ecosystem can sustain before the chimps, or the elephants, or the humans are no longer supportable. So, in order to preserve the only minds we know of in the universe, protecting the environment becomes an imperative.
