Thanks to everyone who commented yesterday. I feel a lot better now that I'm physically sick (head cold). This shores up my "minimum operational suffering" theory of human behavior -- that we have a certain minimal level of suffering we need to live, and if we don't get it, we have to manufacture it ourselves. Hence as absolute poverty fell in 19th- and 20th-century America and Western Europe, mental illness rates rose.

Work feels much less overwhelming today, even though I've got almost exactly the same amount of stuff to do. Again supports my theory that the feeling I had too much arose from the meltdown, not vice versa.

Watched Kill Bill 2 yesterday, on the grounds that I remember Kill Bill 1 being not quite as awful as I expected. Much the same: well-choreographed action sequences, interestingly misplaced dialogue, beautifully terrible music. But I did really like the discussion of Superman, which ran something like, "Most superheroes are born human, and put on a costume to fight crime. But Superman was born Superman. Clark Kent is the costume he wears to fit in with us. That's how he sees us: weak, uncertain, cowardly. Clark Kent is Superman's critique of the entire human race." Yet another piece of evidence that Superman Is a Dick.
